Programme Info

The Postgraduate DMU (Asia) is an internationally recognized qualification fully accredited by ASUM. In Malaysia, the college has been approved by the MQA (Malaysia Qualification Agency). Clinical exposure to real-life patients starts from the beginning of the programme. Students will have frequent patient contact at the attached Vision Diagnostic Centre and various affiliated centres and facilities in Malaysia.The aim of clinical exposure is to ensure that students gain high standards of clinical training and prepared them to enter the workforce industry as a Professional Sonographer.

Graduates of the programme will be regarded highly by the medical fraternity as leading experts of ultrasound scanning. As a professional in diagnostic imaging, graduates can expect higher remuneration. Due to the acute shortage of Sonographers in the world, graduates can seek active employment and exciting careers especially in the medical centres, medical consultancy firm, academic institutions, and hospitals locally and internationally. The remuneration is rewarding and one can expect a fulfilling career ahead.

Through the 1 year fulltime programme, students will be trained to obtain, review and integrate patient history. In addition, during the practical training and clinical sessions, they would have the opportunity to learn how to perform procedures to obtain professional ultrasound images. They would then exercise discretion and judgment as well as record data for interpretation. Last but not least, they will be trained in communication skills to deal with the patient in a professional and ethical manner.

About ASUM

ASUM known as Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine has been an international accrediting standard in Australia and New Zealand for over 3 decades in the field of Sonography. Established in 1970, ASUM has been the governing body in Australia and New Zealand ensuring high standards of sonography.

They are the multidisciplinary society whose primary role is to assist in disseminating scientific information, provide education and set standards of practice in this ultrasound specialty. The members include medical specialists in almost all disciplines of medicine, medical
doctors, sonographers, scientists, veterinarians and corporate companies.ASUM is aaffiliated with the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB) and has linkages with ultrasound societies in Asia and they are the only organization that provides regular education in diagnostic ultrasound across all disciplines since 1970.
